Topic: user account termination date

Is there a way of automatically terminating a user account on a certain date using the usual SME web interface.

At the moment I'm sshing in as root, chmoding the /etc/shadow file and editing it to give a termination date.

I suppose the way to do this using the SME tools would be similar to enforcing a regular password change.

Am I likely to run into trouble editing the shadow file in this way? (i.e. is it likely to break anything else in the system?)
