Dynamic address for server
« on: November 18, 2006, 07:42:16 AM »
I have my SME server within the local network as a webserver with appropriate ports forwarded from my router (USR8200). I would like USR8200 DHCP server to assign a local address to my SME server. When I try to setup the SME server it asks me for local address without other options.

Is there any way to set the SME server as DHCP client?

Shouldn't your server to have a fixed address?

The way usr8200 works, it would assign a dynamic address and then I can make it "static" in usr8200 setup. If I fix the server address by defining it in setup, the usr8200 network becomes inaccessible (I have about 6-7 computers in my network), ie when I go to My network places and then workgroup, it says "network inaccessible". When I unplug my server everything comes back to normal and I can see all my computers and access them normaly. Don't ask why, the only thing I think of is that fixed address. I did set the SME server to 192.168.2.225, and DHCP range 192.168.2.100 192.168.2.150.

I have two systems, one that has a router as handing out dhcp with server fixed within range. the second home system has the sme as the dhcp server, the router is wireless router afterward is fixed.

Sorry, but I don't know enough about the problem or your router to help.
