I need to backup to a NT-server;

Your still running NT. Why?

I use an ibay for the target.

No. You back up SME to your NT Server, therefore the destination target where you will store your backup becomes:

//ntserver/share

You need to define a network share and local account on the NT Server. You assign this account full access write to //ntserver/share. Then enter the target destination, account name and password in your dar2 job panel.

I would like to back up to an Ibay and then use my normal tape backup software to pull the backup file. This allows me to store the backup file in my normal schedules with my other backups. I had been backing up directly to tape but found on restore that my backup software was not maintaining file ownerships and permissions.

Do I have to mount the ibay like an attached drive?

Or can I just use /home/e-smith/files/ibays/backup?

Thanks Darrell!

It works well, also the restore is ok.

PS:
I still use a NT-server because my tape-drive & ERP-system aren't supported by sme7 / linux.

You are backing up the server to the server it self. That is not a logical way and i don't think it can do that. You say you need to back up to a NT server, so you can back up to a network share on that. I use that and it works fine.

PER,

Thanks for the information on backup to a local share. I have set the backup to go to a share on the NT server. I then grab it with tape from there.

I do have a question on what the proper filesystem is for backup to NT/XP

SMBFS or CIFS?

Thanks,

Royce Holdeman

NT/XP = SMBFS.

Install smeserver-dar2 on your sister's server. Create an ibay on your server. Have her backup to your ibay. On your server perform a standard backup (which will include all ibays and her dar archives).

H Darrell,

Is there only one rpm to install for this contrib?

Thanks,
Del

If your installing on SME 7.1 you need two:

The Disk ARchive program:
1) dar-2.3.2-1.i386.rpm

My contrib:
2) smeserver-dar2-0.0.1-1dmay.noarch.rpm

I am getting theis message back and I am not sure if I should be concerned. In fact I am not even sure what it means. A look at the Dar site has not enlightened me.

/etc/e-smith/events/actions/dar2-backup: line 87:  1762 File size limit exceeded$DAR -B /etc/dar2/$DCF -c $MOUNT/$ID/$DCF/$TODAY

Anyone ?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Darrell,

Please tell me where I should record a new feature request.

I have a client that cycles his dar2 backup usb disks offsite. In view of highly publicized media reports of backups going missing with valuable/personal information, I would like to find a way to encrypt the backups. I understand that dar has an encryption capability. Would it be possible to add encryption as an option to the dar2 jobs?

Thanks.

John

I'm sorry for asking what I guess I should know, but how do I install? Sometimes I see reference to a yum localinstall command and sometime an rpm -ivh command. I've searched the contribs forum for standards and I've read this whole thread. I see the rpm method was listed with the betas. Can someone chime in on the proper way to install?

Thanks,
E
