Are you connecting to SME from a linux machine using ssh?

Did you recently reinstall SME?

Are you are sure your connecting to SME? If so delete /root/.ssh/known_hosts on the machine your connecting from.

William

Can you connect a keyboard and monitor to each SME and login as root and get a prompt?

Selecting Console Login mode as Login has no Effect.

mgb allowed me to SSH into his SME6 and I confirmed that he has 'Login' selected but a login as root still goes to the Server Console.

How can he get to a prompt to check the configuration db ?

Asked in SME6 forum as well.

To start up in single user mode, press Ctrl X when you see the Mitel or sme logo appear on the screen after a reboot. This will start the server at a lilo text prompt.

Alternatively use a Knoppix CD or similar to boot up to & get a command prompt.

Once you get the command prompt, it may be wise to run
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

At least that will ensure any config changes inadvertantly made have been applied.

Then i fnecessary go troubleshooting
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration show |more
etc etc

Thanks Ray.

Cntl - X at the logo then
SMEServer-up single

This problem seems to me more than the Consolemode value in the DB.

--byte-- got me curious so I setup a test SME6 set to auto login to the server console.

At the local console, it did that no questions asked. When I ssh'd, I got a login prompt and I could login as root and stay in a shell.

With mgb, I ssh'd over the 'net and loged in as root. There was a brief flash of text and then it went into the server-console.

I'm thinking that the root shell has been changed to /sbin/e-smith/console or that command is running as soon as you log in.

William

HELLO William ,
ןI want to thank you for all the technical support you have given me.  I am heopeful that I will gain better understanding of the material in the near future
however, presently I am still baffled. I pressed Control C and got a Boot: and I am not sure what I need to write now. If I enter, it comes up regular.  If I press Lilo, it doesn't recognize and then I press Tab to see what I can press. Now what?    I think that I will reboot the CD and try it again on the server. If you have somnething else I need to do before \hand, I will be very happy to get that information ASAP.  You also asked me what caused this problem and I although I tried to install Clumsquid, it didn't work and the service stopped working.  This was written by Karen the English teacher, Karen. How is it in Australia?  Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Bye, Yossi

If that is the case, then he or someone else has modified that system.
