DNS problem
« on: June 03, 2006, 11:25:20 AM »
Yesterday i installed my first SME router/gateway. At that moment everything worked fine, but later on, I couldn't visit any pages anymore, I think it has to do something with the dns, but the first maybe hour everything worked fine.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
I use SME 6.6

Hej
If you use Static ip addresse on your
Ext interface then go in server manager
and try setting it to
Get ip address via dhcp from your isp instead
Use DHCP (send ethernet address as client identifier)
maybe it help it did for me  :hammer:

Thanks for replying my message, but the thing is, it's already getting an ip adress via dhcp from my isp, everything is working except the dns.
The strange thing is, it was working for like 2 hours, after that the dns couldn't resolve any names.
Maybe this story will help someone get an idea of my problem.

Can't surf Network Places

We've run into the same problem.
We were able to see other computers on Network Places & Entire Network. Then recently we are finding that we can't find local computers other than typing the name in directly.

Anyone else find this?

MeNaCe & timj

If you really are talking about sme6.x server and a new clean install from CD without any updates, then there was a update for dnscache rpm long ago.
You need to apply this update for reliable dns resolution
see
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=27117.0

If
rpm -q e-smith-dnscache
does not show that you have 0.3.0-04 installed, then do:

T=http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel
rpm -Uhv $T/RPMS/noarch/e-smith-dnscache-0.3.0-04.noarch.rpm
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/dnscache-conf

There have been many updates released for sme 6.x
You should do
yum update
install the rpms
followed by
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
...

May I suggest the bugtracker? And may I also suggest to post it in the right forum, as this is for 6.x servers and you are suggesting you are using 7.0?
