Mail to users that don't exist...
« on: June 20, 2006, 02:10:43 PM »
Is there a way that smtp-front can deny messages to users that don't exist on my system?

I'm having issues with outbound delivery slowness due to the number of delivery failures my server tries to deliver...

I've got a few RBL's set up, and SA is set to (2), but yesterday morning I still had 2500 messages in the outbound queue and delivery was 3+ hours.

Install the dungog mailblocking contrib. It rejects email to invalid users by default.

How many is a few ?
4 lists is a practical limit if you want reasonable incoming & outgoing performance with regard to delays caused by RBL lookups.

Also see this howto for other tweaks that may help

Thanks for the reply Ray.

I'm watching the logs and see that mail to invalid users is currently being denied.  :-)

It's been a while since I set this box up, so I'll have to go back through the recommendations on the link you provided.

I'm using two RBLs presently.
