SME Forces Browser Elections in NT Network
« on: May 23, 2006, 11:28:42 AM »
I'm running a couple of SME 6.5 servers in remote locations purely for file/print services within a NT based network. The main server is MS NT 4.0 based. Because of the way the network master browser is determined in a Microsoft network, the SME machines think they are the master browser and consequently browser elections are force on a regular basis.

Is there anyway I can switch the master browser functionality off on the SME machines?

Cheers
Alistair...

You could change the priority level in the samba templates or just try "Advanced Workgroup" contrib, to fine tune this.

You haven't by chance got the sme server set as a domain controller have you; browse master is set low for workgroup only servers

Sorry for not replying to this for so long. I've been 'out of action' for nearly 4 months.

The SME servers are not configured as domain controllers. As there is no need for users to browse the network to remote sites I've simply configured the firms firewalls to block that traffic.
