accessing i-bay from remote xp machine
« on: May 10, 2006, 01:29:17 PM »
I am new to sme server/linux apps

can i use sme server to set up a web share that will allow me to sync over the internet  a database on a windows machine in one location with the database held on my sme server i-bay in another location.

I think whati need to do is to find a way to map a drive in windows to the remote i-bay but not sure if this is possible.

any help appreciated

It is possible to map an ibay to a drive letter on your remote computer, but you will need to use VPN first, to make that remote computer part of your internal SME network. There are also options to use ssh (scp) to securely transfer files to you server or "rsync".

There are several ways to secure your connection:

ssh
pptp
openvpn
ipsec

If you a newbie begin with ssh and pptp, openvpn and ipsec need a bit more ...

You can do samba over ssh or use the build in pptp-option.
