i have made the final version of ox 8.2 rc3 on both sme6 and sme7

with an update system

give me your feedback .......

for the sme7 version you don't need a special openldap anymore.
ox has drop the ACI options on ldap.

On SME7 don't use the rpm command but use the yum localinstall command to install local (e.g. downloaded) RPM's. Dependencies are then downloaded from the default repositories for the SME Server if they are found there....

Proceeding a lot!

Somehow, I've succeeded in installing the system, and it seems to be working quite OK.

BUT:

I cannot change password, - for some reason the username became also the password, and that should be changed from within Open Exchange I think.

Using "Setu" -> "Password" results in:

HTTP Status 404 - /umin/myDataPasswd

type Status report

message /umin/myDataPasswd

description The requested resource (/umin/myDataPasswd) is not available.

Another issue:

Using the server-manager, adding an alias mail address results in the infamous Internal Server Error page...

Hi
Where is the sme7-open-xchange-0.8.2-RC3.21.noarch I can only find
sme7-open-xchange-conf-0.8.2-1.noarch.rpm. Note no RC3.21. This file fails with

error: %pre(sme7-open-xchange-conf-0.8.2-1.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
error:   install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping sme7-open-xchange-conf-0.8.2-1

So end up with no server-manager panel and
Can not build up Socket!
SessionD running?
When logging into Open-Xchange
Any clues?

SME7rc1 new install

I copied all files from http://smeserver.free.fr/ox/ox7/
Installed with:   rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps *.rpm

Issue 1: The install seemed to run ok but, the users passwords in OX were the same as there names ie.  bob/bob
I had to use the SME user panel to change the password then I was able to log into the webmail.

Issue 2: When i try and send OXLOOK I get an error
Software error:
error sending to {bob}

Any thoughts?

Good Evening,

I'm looking for the files that are needed outside of the ones on smeserver.free.fr which evidently can't be hosted there because of the ISP issues. I'm wanting to upgrade my 8.0-6 installation to 8.2-1. If you could put a list of the files needed outside of the ones on your website, I'll find them on the web and install them. I may need the order of installation. Does the ISP not allow a text file with a list of the files needed?

Good Evening,

Ok, I wasn't exactly clear in my last post. I'm running SME v6.x with OX 8.0-6. According to this thread, we are at least up to OX 8.2-x. I'm trying to assemble the files needed to upgrade to 8.2-x from 8.0-6. When I look at this url: http://smeserver.free.fr/files/open-xchange/ox6.8.2/files/readme.html it states that there is a file: sme-open-xchange-0.8.2-18.noarch.rpm available for download. When I click on this, it states that the file is not found. I'm assuming that I need to install various files from this link: http://smeserver.free.fr/files/index.php?dir=open-xchange/ox6.8.2/ but I'm not sure which. When attempting to install the various files, it states that I already have most of them already installed. When I attempt to install XFreelibx-xxxxxx.rpm, it states that I need a couple of lib's.

Is 8.0-6 stable enough to use in production or are there major updates contained in 8.2-x?

Good Evening,

Has anyone used the OXtender? They aren't selling it individually now. I'm wondering about all the features. I can't see all the features because I'm using the dadblame evaluation and I didn't buy when they were selling them individually.

If you start out with a clean Outlook with no accounts setup, how does it work, any testimonies?

I can add new users from the server-manager and log them in OK but I cannot login as admin. Do I perhaps need to go back to the basie SME setup and reassign the "admin" user password ?

Thanks

Vincent,

there's still one point: If I create a user via server-manager AFTER installing open-xchange, this user has a broken ox-gui. Only the portal icon appears.

All users are correctly transferred if their accounts already exist before the installation. Adding the user manually tu the oxdatabase results in SQL errors.

The only way is to initall_ox. That's not really practicable - all data is gone afterwards.

Do you have an idea to fix this?

OPEN-XCHANGE BROKEN AFTER UPDATE!!
« Reply #36 on: October 19, 2006, 05:52:19 PM »
I did an update with the newest rpm's from vincent. Right now

--> open-xchange is broken
--> backup didn't work
--> ldap destroyed

It is not possible to restore the ldap in the way I described above in the thread. If anybody has any idea to restore or to build up a new ldap, I'm heavily interested.

I cannot recommend open-xchange for production use, as long the backup/restore feature and the update feature are not working!!

Vincent, please inform if these bugs are fixed.

OPEN-XCHANGE AND LDAP FIXED AFTER UPDATE
« Reply #37 on: October 20, 2006, 03:48:59 PM »
Well, to get back on the way:
1.) After performing the update, I removed step by step every single rpm which I had downloaded from http://smeserver.free.fr/Files/open-xchange/ox7/. Command: rpm -e alldownloadedrpm's --nodeps.
2.) I deleted manually all information of ldap, psql and open-xchange on the server.
3.) I re-installed all downloaded rpm's with yum localinstall.
4.) I fixed the rebuild_db.sh file.
5.) run initall_ox
6.) run scan_users.sh
7.) re-enter all passwords of every user in the server-manager.

There we go - open-xchange works.

Unfortunately all previous in ox stored information is gone. Again my question: does anybody work successfully with ox_backup and ox_restore? Here's the error message when starting the backup:

[root@warp sbin]# backup_ox
config file testing succeeded
pg_dump: [Archivierer (DB)] Verbindung zur Datenbank »openexchange« fehlgeschlagen: FATAL:  IDENT authentication échouée pour l'utilisateur "openexchange"

fpausp,

first try a scan_users.sh. Then re-confirm all user-passwords in the sme server-manager. Login in ox with username and password. If this don't work, please be patient. The last days I fixed the most important scripts of vincent. I'll try to write a how-to-install-ox for sme in the next days.

"unknown option to 's'
« Reply #41 on: November 23, 2006, 11:30:29 PM »
Hi

Just in case anyone else has this problem. LDAP server configuration with Open-Xchange caused an eror with the rebuild of the database from scan_users.sh. The error message was "unknown option to 's' line 3. We track it down to the abbreviation "P/L" (short for "Pty Ltd") in the directory's company name.
The SME std LDAP configuration does not have this problem.

Hi
Anyone who is using Open-Xchange on SME ver 7 please check if you have a fragment called S99syncSysFiles in /etc/e-smith/events/actions it is called by code in the actions/ox..... directories. I can not find it on 2 independant systems and may not be required on in use.

TIA

compsos,

I don't have this fragment in my installation. What version of open-xchange are you using? Mine is sme7-open-xchange-0.8.2.1-58.noarch.rpm.

I do not have it either, but I found links to it (orphaned of course) in the /etc/e-smith/events/ox...... directories. I have now checked 3 other installations and they are all the same with a !S99syncSysFiles link.

Gordon,

you're right. See below:

[root@warp e-smith]# find -name S99sync*
./events/ox-send-mail/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-add-alias/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-modify-mail-user/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-modify-mail/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-del-alias/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-sendmail-forall/S99syncSysFiles
./events/oxuser-create/S99syncSysFiles
./events/ox-modify/S99syncSysFiles

The link: lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 23  2. Nov 10:29 S99syncSysFiles -> ../actions/syncSysFiles does not exist.

Would be nice to know, what it should be good for.

I hope Vince is watching the thread as he is probably the only one that knows!

Also have modified any of his scriipts that call
'service ldap ....'
'service tomcat...'
'service postgresql...
'service openxchange...'
to
'/etc/rc7.d/S.....' as the unsupervised service call especially on ldap runs an out of control service and fills the logs.

There are some other funny things also...

restore_ox:    [ -x /etc/rc.d/init.d/oxserve-scandir ] && /etc/rc.d/init.d/oxserve-scandir start 2>&1 >/dev/null
restore_ox:    [ -x /etc/rc.d/init.d/oxserve-index ] && /etc/rc.d/init.d/oxserve-index start 2>&1 >/dev/null

There are a few faults in the scripts. In my installation there's no oxserve-scandir either oxserve-index. I mentioned these things in my messages in the past.

I told this Vincent already. May be in a newer version this things are fixed?

Yes I had seen those. Just not sure what to do with some of these orphaned scripts.

When it works it seems a great product but can be problematic when there are wild cards in the scripts.
Also have adjusted the template for the data base to reflect the local language, and date format. Some maybe interested to adj the default email folders so as it stays in tune with Horde. This is done in the
/opt/openxchange/etc/webmail/webmail.properties file.

Have you tried it on 7.1A. Seems we have some new issues with openldap.

Cheers

gordon,

please tell me the version of your ox-installation. Mine is sme7-open-xchange-0.8.2.1-58.noarch.rpm. While users are working with ox, no problems occured. Backup and restore are working, I tested both successfully. One have to be extremly careful restoring a backup to a newer ox-version. The server is running with SME 7.0. All updates installed.

cheers

Hi Stefan

SME ver 7.0 (except one system on 7.1)
OX ver 0.8.2.1-58

This is the list of scripts that I have adjusted for our purposes

(service calls changed to /etc/rc7.d/S...)
realinitall_ox
insert_ldap.sh
backup_ox
restore_ox

(DB Language to en_AU)
10initbase

(Added AUD)
currencyformat

(Language to EN)
loginsme.pm

(tunable settings for calendar)
calendar

(Changed EN format to dd/MM/yyyy)
dateformat

(DEFAULT_PREF_LANG="EN")
admintools.conf

(changed default folders to sync with Horde)
webmail.properties

When you dig around the choices are awesome just a case of finding them.

Cheers

Re: OPEN-XCHANGE AND LDAP FIXED AFTER UPDATE
« Reply #51 on: December 16, 2006, 11:38:28 PM »
Hi,
I'm having trouble beetween OX and SME'LDAP.
Can you give me more explanation on point 2 and 4 :
Quote from: "SchulzStefan"

Thanks

I just have to fill up every line in the SME's LDAP panel (Service, Société, Adresse, Ville, Téléphone), and run
/usr/local/open-xchange/sbin/initall_ox

GPL ? GPL + CC ?
« Reply #53 on: December 17, 2006, 06:22:52 PM »
Hello Everyone,

As per the OX Community site, starting version 0.8.2-1 onward there are three license models: Server Pack, Web Pack, and Convenience.  The differences are, and I quote the OX site:

"The difference between the Convenience, Server, Web packs is the license form. The Convenience Pack is licensed under GPL and CC. The Server Pack is pure GPL. The Web Pack is under the Creative Commons by nc-sa."

http://www.open-xchange.com/EN/developer/download.html

--

My question to you all (and perhaps Vincent in particular), is that which "pack" was the SME RPMs based upon?

The reason why I want to find out more about which license model that we are dealing with here is because I intended to use it for the company, and the last thing I want to do is to violate the license agreement.  Therefore whether the SME packages [prepared by Vincent] was taken from the GPL pack determines whether I'll actually use OX or stay with the existing W2K3 Small Business Server.

If anyone can give me a hint that will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

P.S.: I know, M$ is evil.  Unfortunately OX is not a lot cheaper yet only covers part of what W2K3 SBS has to offer.  I really want to replace M$ with Linux but I have to make a sound case to make sure my boss will buy-in.  It's just sad that OX decided to mess up with the community edition by introducing the new (and confusing) licensing models ...

York,

The packages vincent has built are based on the Web Pack and the Server Pack (The convenience pack is just these two combined).

The full function of OX is included in the Server Pack (GPL Licence) but it does not include any of the stylesheets, icons or images. The Web Pack is nothing but the style sheets, icons and images that are owned by Open-Xchange and licensed under the Creative Commons license. There is nothing stopping you using the Web Pack 'within' your company but you are not allowed to use it if you are re-selling Open-Xchange (eg. Groupware or email hosting).

Re-creating your own style sheets and images isn't too hard, it will require about a week straight of work and requires fairly good knowledge of CSS. Looking at how the web pack is done is a good way to start when creating your own theme (but don't use it as a template as this would be breaching the CC).

Thanks for the info.  Frankly I am not good at these kind of things so I guess the W2K3 SBS is here to stay then.  Thanks again.

Hello Everyone,

Actually to follow up on my own post above, I wonder if anyone is interested in a bounty to create the CC part of OX such that our company can use OX freely?  And if so what is the ballpark figure that we are talking about?  Of course we can't afford to pay too much given the size of our firm (just look at the fact we all revolve around the one and only W2K3 SBS in the office for our daily operation and you can imagine the size of the company. :-)

My email address is: york at 9675 dot ca.  Thank you very much.

York,

Maybe we could create a web-pack that ties in a bit more with the look and feel of SME and is released under the GPL.

Hello Daniel,

This is a good idea - either a bounty or to release as GPL will do the trick for us.

Assuming we are now exploring the GPL route, as I mentioned before I am not good at these kind of stuff (i.e. CSS, graphics etc.), therefore I can offer the following instead of "my service":

- 10G +/- of storage space.
- Bandwidth to host the server on the Internet.
- Perhaps a groupware (such as eGW on WAMPP etc.) for collaboration.
- On-going storage space and bandwidth for general public download.

Unfortunately other than these I can't think of anything else I can contribute to the project.  What do you think?

Thank you very much.

O.K., I see that perhaps the GPL route is not all that attractive to many ... How about a bounty to re-create the CC part of the community OX package (called The Web Pack, I believe)?    Please contact me at: y o r k at 9 6 7 5 dot c a.

Thank you very much.
