[Announce] How to: Install Leafnode on SME 7.0
« on: April 09, 2006, 02:31:58 PM »
After a few days head stratching man page reading and battling with the wiki editor has produced the following:

http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Leafnode%20On%20SME%207.0

Feel free to correct or comment. Time for a :pint:

Cheers
Dave.

My two cents for the answers to one of your questiuons at the bottom: IMHO you should install the template fragments into the template-custom directory as leafnode is not part of the SMEserver distribution, this way you can determine between the base and the added features.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth ~ Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

Mr Swallow also thinks that until such time as a smeserver-leafnode rpm appears the fragments should remain in templates-custom. I'm not sure I'm up to building the rpm myself, it appears to be a bit of a black art. B-) Though I think there is an idiots guide about now that even this idiot could follow.

The other queries I had for those that haven't read the How To are:

Should the link to daemontools be in the init.d/supervise or init.d directory?

I enter nntp into the configuration database with "config set nntp service status enabled TCPPort 119 access private". I'm not sure if the last two properties (TCPPort and access) are required by the internals of SME that I haven't investigated. I have simply included them for completness, most other services in the database have them.

I am in devinfo and will make an announcment in due course, that isn't mentioned in the "guides to announcing things". Neither is the fact that weblinks are not working ATM, though you are prompted to enter the info there... I know it's a wiki correct it thyself.  B-)

Cheers
Dave.
