« on: April 05, 2006, 10:44:11 PM »
hi all--

looking for some help here.

i have an area of our corporate website that i want to restrict to local users of the sme server.

is there a way to use .htaccess authentication with the /etc/passwd or any other form of local authentication?

not a bad idea, but since all we have eight offices scattered around the city without wan or vpn access, i can't concievably do that.

if one could just use .htaccess/.htpasswd to authenticate local users, that would probably be the easiest method (at least, for the users).

i know i've seen it donw on osx systems, various linuxes, and winblows boxes. any ideas on how to implement that on sme?

There is already functionality in sme server to give your remote users local access privileges.
See the Local Networks panel and read the manual
