I have a problem, I just cannot get my head round how to solve it.

A friend has an SME6 box that has been working well, he recently decided to host his domain with another ISP. His SME box is setup for his domain (let's call it bloggs.com) In the hostnames and addresses it has mail.bloggs.com as SELF. And this has worked fine with his last ISP. AS the mail server was a different name.

However now his new ISP has called their pop3 server for his domain mail.bloggs.com also, and as you can imagine the sme box thinks it is the mail server!

So do I go into hostnames and change it to remote and stuff the mail server IP in? Or do I remove the entry completely? I have tried the IP but it still will not allow me to download the mail.

I know the ISP server works as I have used outlook express to download mail fine.

Very confused.

What was your solution?

I may have a similar issue to resolve.

Thanks,

Darin

I telnetted into another machine and ping'd the mailserver, made a note of the IP, and then went into the hostnames part and told it external, and put in the mail servers IP, not quite sure whay it did not work first time, but did reboot after the change this time and it all worked.
