port forwarding question
« on: March 29, 2006, 04:57:03 AM »
hi experts,
My Linux server is behind a Multitech Route Finder RF550VPN
  Local ip = 192.168.4.44

I want to be able to browse the shared folder on my SME Linux server.
What port’s do I need to forward to do this?

Thanks for your help

From inside of your LAN you should be able to do it without opening any ports.
From outside (Internet) you don't want direct browsing.
The good approach would be to open/forward port 1723 on your firewall to SME server and use PPTP VPN from outside. Your Internet based workstation becomes part of the local LAN where browsing for shared folders is allowed.
