editing /etc/services
« on: March 06, 2006, 06:10:16 PM »
Hi,

i edited /etc/services and after a reboot it changed back.

I have looked at changing it elsewhere but am struggling.

i tried  /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/services/ but the layout is different.

I want to change SMTP to 2525 so  my spam killer can listen on 25.

help appreciated.

Unfortunately I can not give you the answer, but I can give you some advice.

Modifications to the template should not be made in the templates directory as that is the location for the original files. Instead copy the original file to the ../templates-custom/ directory and modify this (copied) file.

After making the changes expand the template using the expand-template command and if neccesarry restart the service or reboot the server for the changes to be aaplied.

Changes made in  the templates-custom directory are kept when upgrading compnents and are also saved in the backup.

My guess is that the port settings might be somewhere in the configuration database and else they should be somewhere in the templates... although I don't know where :-(
