Upgrade from a mounted ISO
« on: February 16, 2006, 06:08:40 PM »
I would like to upgrade an installation 5.6 that I have.  My machine is a Toshiba Magnia SG20.  It is a great little box for running SME but it has no CD, Floppy, USB, or Serial connection.  Does anyone know if it is possible to mount an ISO image as a loopback device and run install/upgrade scripts manually.  Or does the machine have to boot from the CD.

I have tried for days to put the Harddrive from the Magnia into another machine, load SME and then put the harddrive back but this has not worked, despite manually selecting the correct Drivers for the Toshiba during the install, disabling Kudzu and gettys, trying to port the console to the parallel port and other tricks.

Many thanks for the help

Bob

Bob,

Can your Toshiba do a "network boot" i.e.pxe boot?
(look into your bios settings)

YES? ->
Read: http://nx.dyndns.info/sme/pxeboot/pxeboot.php
or search the forum for pxe and tftp
