Otay, an update...

I figured out how to get VMware-Tools installed.

I rem'd out the pcnet32 modute in /etc/modprobe.conf, rebooted the VM, then re-ran the vmware-config-tools.pl script and followed the instructions to implement the vmxnet driver.

As already explained maybe a mistake with sme server configuration but NOT a problem related to my machine configuration because all other distroes works perfectly.

Do you have any suggestion?????

A bit late, but if you read the vmware virtual machine manual it will tell you that the dhcp supplied with vmware does NOT pass on dns info (it acts as a DNS itself).

Unfortunately smeserver relies on acting as it's own DNS and getting the relevant upstream info (which it doesn't get from the vmware dhcp).

When configuring the server the almost last step asks if you want to define a nameserver (and then recommends that you don't). In this case put in the nat'd gateway address. This will likely be <your vmware net>.2 (eg. 192.168.10.2).

Good Luck!

A new virtual machine with sme7.0rc2 is on its way to the mirrors.

You can find it here for instance:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/hanscees/

greetings
Hans-Cees

ps. It seems a kernel for amd athlon is installed. If anyone can test with an intel proc and let me know if that works? That would be nice.

Probably because it's now in smedev

Try
Code: [Select]
yum --enablerepo=smedev --enablerepo=base install smeserver-vmware-server

Maybe for you but not for me   Since I don't know how to make the VM

1. I have to locate how to.
2. load required software
3. Build VM then probably re-do it a couple of times . . . just because I will screw it up somewhere along the way.

 -- vs --

1. download VM
2. run VM

I should figure out how to build the VM, but don't have the time to look at it right now, or maybe I am just lazy  :P

A BIG Thanks to Hanscees and everyone else that contribute so much to the SME community!

Peace,
Kevin

somebody apparently removed my folder and all its content. I was not consulted in this (or it got stuck in the spam filters.)
