Joomla and Plone seem to be Content management systems (for web sites), rather than Customer Relationship Management systems.

I have looked at SugarCRM (from the opensourcecms site), which looks pretty good - have any one installed it on SMEserver?

He Rien,

Try a search on this site, but for a quick answer:

http://www.sugarcrm.com/
http://www.vtiger.com/

wich are more or less the same, and (partially) GPL. For info on installation search this site.

regards,
jester.

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in setting up vTiger on 6.5 but after checking the offical site and the Install How-To PDF, this is clear that 6.5 is too "old" (and perhaps 7 Beta too!).

My question is: Does anyone out there successfully installed vTiger on SME?  If so please do share your "notes".  Thank you very much.

Regards,

York

I have had no trouble installing vTiger on either 6.0.1 or 7 Pre1.
As long as you are using PHP4 not 5 and Mysql 4 then you should have no problems. I do not use the.bin executable version from their site , I simply create an ibay and dump the files in there in the HTML folder. A little bit of tweaking to point to the correct, empty mySQL database and Bob's your uncle!
Make sure you have the permissions set up as per the install.php file in the install folder in vTiger and you should have a fully functioning CRM installation.

can you go into more detail on your: "A little bit of tweaking to point to the correct, empty mySQL database"
If you can, step by step would be great.

thanks

Sorry!
Only just noticed your mail and I'm off home in a mo, so I'll just give a couple of quick details to see if this is what you mean.

Obviously, make sure you have MySQL loaded (MySQL 4 version). Create a database called something like 'vtiger4'.
MySQL probably won't have a password in it's default configuration so in the vtiger 'install.php' page, which you run after putting the vtiger files in the correct ibay, just list the SQL server as 'localhost:3306' and the user as root with no password, make sure you also list the database as the correct name, .i.e vtiger4, this takes me on to the next screen successfully.

Is this what you mean? (I'll give further details if neccessary although all this can be found on the vTiger site)

Good luck with it.

mysql is the wrong version for vtiger4
« Reply #11 on: March 12, 2006, 06:10:18 AM »
the vtiger people say that mysql 4.1x is no good, i must be 4.0.  The sme 7 Pre release ? that I have includes mysql 4.1.12

See here:

http://blogs.vtiger.com/viewtopic.php?t=4248&start=0

so make sure that you get vtiger 4.2.3 instead of 4.2, since 4.2.3 works OK for me.
