Allowing external access to my SMTP server
« on: November 28, 2001, 07:59:09 PM »
Hi...

I'm running an e-smith 4.1.2 server.

The thing with the SMTP server is that it denys users that have mailaccounts on the server to send through it if they are not on the local network.

I do not want it to be an open relay, but i want users to be able to send through it if they have an account on it.  How do i solve this problem?

OH SO MANY SECURITY ISSUES.... and the risk of running the gauntlet wiht your ISP (particularly if you go open relay....

IMHO - use the smtp of the dial up account of the isp you use for modem access for the user and set the pop3 to your e-smith and that should solve most of the probs (i currently use this approach for my "Road Warriors"

alternately stick with Webmail.

Hope this helps
