Topic: Upgrade 6.01 to 7 Beta

Has anyone tried to upgrade 6.01 to 7 Beta yet?  Did you encounter any problems.

I am thinking about giving it a try.  Have only installed dansguardian, gallery and dungogs mail contribs to a standard version.  Like to know first if there are any problems?

I believe that upgrade path has been tested by developers and is a supported upgrade path.
Keep in mind it is still beta software so don't rely on it just yet for production use.
If you do, then make sure you test first.

I would suggest you set up a test sme 7beta1 server and install those contribs and see if they work OK.
Then let us all know.

I upgraded 6.5 RC2 to 7.0 beta1 and although I got no errors I found 2 issues (at least on my system).  

1) email wouldnt send or recieve - despite not getting any errors at all.  The server appeared to send and accept messages but they never arrive at internal or external destinations.

2) Log page on server-manager panel was showing an internal server error.  I havent done a fresh install yet I went back to 6.5 and will wait for a more stable release.

We'll get there much faster if you report the bugs in the bug tracker, as I requested in all of the 7.0beta1 announcements.

As Ray said above, we have done a lot of testing of 6.0[1] upgrades and expect unmodified servers to work properly. If not, please raise bugs in the proper place.

None of those have been tested by the core development team. I know that Stephen Noble is watching 7.0 development and working to make his contribs compatible if they aren't already.

I don't know how dansguardian is plugged in, so I have no idea whether it will work, not work, or break something.

Gallery may be a problem - check the "sticky" thread in this forum for possible breakage/fixes for apache templates.

The mail contribs will need to be changed to work with qpsmtpd. They probably won't break anything, but also probably won't do anything either. Many of the features, but probably not all, are already in 7.0

There's another "sticky" thread above about testing contribs on 7.0 which is worth checking.

The database has changed locations; thus, I would expect most contribs that use the database to be broken if upgrading.
