Dedicated WLAN port for WIFI on SME?
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:17:09 PM »
I am very new to SME server - so be gentle...

I currenty a number of seperate linux based servers for various functions (IPcop router, SME web server and NASlite+ NAS drive).

I want to combine all these into a single SME server(gateway). I know basically what I am doing, but have a single question.

On my IPcop router, I currently operate a 3rd NIC for my WLAN. Can I achieve the same effect on SME? ie. a secure firewalled WLAN port which accesses local LAN resources.

Sure you can, but you'll need to work out all the details for yourself. There's currently no support for WLAN interfaces, and no support for MAC filtering, which I'd consider essential for any WLAN interface configuration.

Or you could look at using an AP which authorises through a RADIUS server.  There is a RADIUS server contrib available - use the search.
