It's a much greater waste of developer time to scour through forums looking for bugs which haven't been reported in the proper place.

As has been said here many times, report anything which doesn't "just work" to the bug tracker. Especially so for alpha and beta releases. You just waste everyone's time with "is it a bug or not" discussion. There's also a significant change that you'll be misled by mistaken answers in the forums.

Thanks CharlieBrady
Point taken i added a couple of bugs to the tracker.

My goodness you keep a close watch on things!

New version might take a while to percolate out to the
various mirrors.

I've included support for download using a zsync client.
zsync works like rsync, but puts much less load on the
server. More info on zsync here:

http://zsync.moria.org.uk/

I've added linux zsync RPMs in the devel/RPMS directory.

New version is the first one built using the RHEL/CentOS installer. That should improve hardware detection and compatibility.

It's a very minimal modification of the CentOS version, so
there are bound to be some rough edges.

Autodetection of upgradable systems isn't there yet - you'll
need to choose "install" or "upgrade" from the boot prompt.
Don't run this on a production server, and don't type in the
wrong string!

This version features an experimental feature for single disk
installs - it sets up the partitions as RAID1 (but with one
disk per set). That should make it easier for someone to work
out how to migrate from a single disk install to two disk
install. Shad Lords' already had a little look at the problem.

Thanks to some great testing and research from Roger Buck
there's a new netatalk package and configuration (which can't
work any worse than the last one!).

I've substantially reworked mysql initialisation/backup/restore. Instead of over 700 lines of
perl, there's less than 20 lines of shell script (although
some of the perl does remain in a few templated files). I've
also fixed/worked around the problems with supervising mysql.

Many of the reported bugs in earlier versions have been
fixed, and I've rolled in work Gordon Rowell has been doing
on the email configuration panel.

Upgrades from 6.x might now work. Please, please don't test
on a production server.

Hey Yall,
SME7.0alpha6,
is anyone else having a problem getting the md5 to match? Three downloads, from 3 different locations, all came out with the same MD5. They didn't match the checksum that is posted.
Hope it is just me!

Good question - I hadn't yet checked that.

bash-2.05a$ cat *.md5sum
1dd94b400a96dcc99864d91f6a33c02b  ../smeserver-7.0alpha6.iso

bash-2.05a$ md5sum smeserver.iso
99927c4a50b25fb463aa4bfcceb82d13  smeserver.iso

So my version does not match either.

This was from the ibiblio mirror.

I think i will complete my upgrade to centos4 rather then this one. I require the Mysql 4 upgrade more then anything. Sorry i guess that will leave me out of the feedback. I hope it all goes well i will watch and learn.

Charlie Brady has confirmed that the md5sum file was incorrect, in a while the correct file will appear.

The correct md5sum is:

Please everybody, don't report any more cosmetic bugs to do with the installer. "alpha" means incomplete. The installer work is just prototype. I know it's rough - you don't need to tell me that. It's intended to get the job done, and no more.

If installation or upgrade fails, I want to know that. Or if the software doesn't work correctly after installation, I want to know that as well. But I'm not concerned about how it looks at present.

7.0alpha7 is out for testing
« Reply #27 on: April 21, 2005, 05:12:17 PM »
New feature in this release is updated webmail (IMP/horde/turba). Thanks to Greg Swallow for the original development work.

Most previously reported bugs have also been fixed.

Please test on non-production equipment, and report any problems to the bug tracker at http://smeserver.sourceforge.net/.

PPTP VPN should be working in this version. Please also test upgrades and restore from backup (but not with any data that matters).

Thanks
