Apache pwauth problem
« on: January 09, 2005, 07:28:58 AM »
I've set up an i-bay, with group "Everyone" and access of "write" for admin, "read" for group. Access is protected by password for all users external to the local network. When I try to access it remotely, I get the dialog box as expected. When I type the i-bay name and the password I assigned, the dialog is redisplayed, and I get an error in the httpd error log:

reason: AuthExtern pwauth [/usr/lib/apache/pwauth]:Failed (255) for user sru

This looks like I'm entering the wrong password, but I am quite certain I'm not. I have this configuration running OK on another client's server, both running SME Server 6.0, and I can't see what the difference is. Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks,

In case anyone else hits this issue, I worked out the cause - the /usr/lib/apache/pwauth file had a group setting of admin instead of www. When I corrected it, the problem was resolved.
