Problems with Owl
« on: December 14, 2004, 09:01:47 PM »
I like the look of the Owl document management system and found it very easy to install on my SME 6[1].01custom installation with the MySQl 4.022-0 update.

I logged in as root and followed the instructions in...

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/owl/Owl-installmanual.pdf

...all of which worked exactly as the document indicates - I obviously missed out the -p in the mysql command lines because root is automatically accepted with the built in password, and I also ran the MySQL command lines individually at a MySQL prompt, but other than that, everything went perfectly and the finished system worked just fine.

Then I looked at the Mambo websites on my server and they had all fallen over, putting up the standard 'Tell the Webmaster the sh*t has hit the Fan' message'.

I went to look at the databases themselves and found that the normally well behaved MySQL Administrator installation on my Windows workstation could only see the new 'intranet' database and the empty 'test' database. Horde, Mysql and all of the Mambo databases were nowhere to be seen - when I looked in MySQL at the console, however, the databases were actually all present.

To cut the story short, I uninstalled Owl, reinstalled the MySQL bases from a backup and restarted the server, and everything is back to normal.

I just thought a warning might be useful at this stage.

I'm going to clone my server and try Owl again, after which I'll report back with more details.
