Yum Update Sites - SME 6
« on: October 01, 2004, 09:49:02 AM »
Hi,

Just wondering what sites do people use to pull down updates for SME6 through Yum ?

I use the following:

http://www.pagefault.org/download/e-smith/6.0/legacy-utils/i386/
http://www.pagefault.org/download/e-smith/6.0/os/i386/
http://www.pagefault.org/download/e-smith/6.0/updates/i386/

Any other ones ?

I have search high and low but I have not found anything concrete about all the available update sites. The recommended one:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/smeserver/updates/6.0.1/RPMS/

only has one RPM 19th of March 2004.

I would be interested where others are picking up their updates from since the kernel and the apps on sme 6 is/are quite old but stable  :-)

I presume it would be too much effort to get other people's opinions & best practises

Except the ones you've found anyway: http://www.pagefault.org/download/e-smith/6.0.1/updates/i386/.

I use yum only for informational purposes. I use devinfo-mitel-update-system-0.0.1-16.noarch.rpm (a lot more to do by hand, not so yummy) or the console.

You have find out what "MPPE required, but kernel has no support" means.

Upgrading does not come without a price. You will break things on upgrading.

Well breaking things and upgrading are not neccesarely going hand in hand.

Anyway, I found more on MPPE here: http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-diagnosis.phtml#mppe
It points me in some direction. Version conflict, configuration error or missing kernel module(s)...

I will check the server against the above information and see if that holds the solution.

Check out the Kernel Upgrade Howto from:

http://vanhees.homeip.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=4

<snip>

Change file /etc/modules.conf for pptp use

# mkdir -p /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/modules.conf/
# cp /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/modules.conf/10ppp-compress-aliases /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/modules.conf/
Change line :
"alias ppp-compress-18 ppp_mppe",
For :
"alias ppp-compress-18 ppp_mppe_mppc",

Signal change:
# /sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/modules.conf

<snip>

Looks like ya problem in a nutshell

SME 6.0 upgrading kernel
« Reply #12 on: October 23, 2004, 06:57:55 AM »
smeghead,

i just want to ask from u regarding upgrading kernel in SME 6.0.  I tried to follow the steps in http://vanhees.homeip.net/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=18&meid=   in upgrading the kernel.  I encounter problem in step 6.  When i launched the command 'lilo', it has an error.

Added Mitel-SME-smp
Added SMEServer-2427
Fatal: No images have been defined.

.. my guess is that you have made a typo when editing the lilo.conf file; any errors I have had when doing an upgrade are invariably related to typing with 3 thumbs :-)

Linux is VERY case sensitive so you need to be precise.

The lilo command is verifying that the files on the HDD match the sections in the lilo.conf file and if so it then rebuild the lilo boot information.

The 'Fatal:No images have been defined' error would seem to indicate that the kernel you are asking it to use is not the kernel indicated in the lilo.conf file.

These two repositories don't work and generate errors in the server manager if you install them.

Side note; Maybe I'm using an older version of SME Yum but to get it to work I have to /sbin/e-smith/expand-template etc/yum.conf after each repository I enter to get it to work.
