DMZ or Paranoia?
« on: September 12, 2004, 07:44:23 AM »
I have friends who tell me I should have a dedicated firewall with a DMZ set up for the SME box! I understand their reasoning for this, and why that would be effective, but is it worth it?

The SME is sitting in front of a small network, and serving email and web for a very small number of users. Its nothing big or flash, and would not attract a high volume of customers. Can I rely on SME and its services? Or am I asking for disaster?

I've just installed SME for the first time and I'm wondering, is there an update system? Or notification area? Perhaps I should check out the mailing lists :P

Just wondering what I should do to my fresh install to bring it up to speed, if not already :D

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim
I think the SME is a perfectly adequate firewall.
