Topic: Web acces to user's dir.

Hi,
my e-smith box is running perfectly but some of my user want to do PHP dev. so they need directory with web acces. I can create an private ebay for each of them, but what a want is an acces like http://www.myserver.mydomain/~username wich is something that i know is possible with Linux & Apache. When i try this kind of address I get a HTTP error 403 (file acces denied).
I can't find how to do that on e-smith (nor in e-smith manual, nor on this site). I know I have to look at the Apache conf files but i don't want to interfer with e-smith configuration and template.
Does somebody knows how to do? Or maybe where to look for help?
