Spamhaus email rejections
« on: May 01, 2004, 01:54:34 AM »
My dsl provider is dslextreme.com.  In the last couple of days most but not all emails I send are rejected with the following typical message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test

Sent: 4/30/2004 10:10 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'test@dsbl.org' on 4/30/2004 10:10 AM

451 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=67.127.55.104

If I look for header information on the rejection email, I don't see any.  I can see header information on other emails.

I have a static IP address and the one listed is not mine.  Dslextreme says the problem is in my system, and that the message is a standard message they send to users who have corrupt email profiles or who send emails to bad addresses.  This is not believable to me.

I looked up the IP address and it is registered to pacbell.   My ISP claims no knowledge of that IP address.

Any ideas how I can get my emails through, what I can tell the ISP to fix, or how to prove where the problem is?

Check for DNS block list listing at
http://openrbl.org/

That IP is listed a number of times, so your ISP is rightfully rejecting mail from that IP.

How come it appears to be your IP when you say your static IP is different ?

Better check your server is not an open relay ??

Are you running RBLList blocking on your system ?

This HOWTO will tell you all about it and also explain why your ISP is rejecting "your" messages, as they appear to be using RBLList blocking.

You will also see how to test your server for an open relay.

Sorry the open relay test is in another HOWTO see

< http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/Virus%20and%20file%20blocking%20HOWTO%20using%20smtpfront-qmail%20for%20sme%20server.htm >

At the server's command prompt do:
telnet relay-test.mail-abuse.org

Note: This only works if the outgoing address is also your mailserver address

Alternatively browse to
www.abuse.net/relay.html
and enter your server details and perform the test
