Network Install Fails :-(
« on: August 17, 2001, 10:28:57 PM »
Hiya

I'm trying to do a network install, as i don't have access to either a CD burner or CD Rom drive (don't ask).

I've downloaded the ISO and placed it on a win98 machine on the network.  This machine in running Apache so i can do the network install.

I boot the (future) e-smith machine (a PIII with 128 MB RAM and a 30 gig HD) using the bootnet.img floppy (with no modifications) and choose HTTP install.

I couldn't get the installation programme to find the disc image on the win98 machine.  It was looking for the "Redhat" directory, so I used ISObuster to extract all the files from the image and then restarted the installation.

This time it went fine until I got an error message and text dump (see below).

Any ideas what is wrong?  I've installed RedHat 7.1 previously on this machine (throught the network) and it worked fine, straight from the image.

I haven't a clue.  Here's the error message:

nice.

Just had a thought.  I can put the .iso file and/or the extracted files on another HD in the propased e-smith machine.

If anyone could give me advice on how to install in this manner, that would be groovy.

Thanks

PeTe  :-)

I believe the e-smith install assumes you have a single disk.  The installer will overwrite any other disks.

I have used a linux http server to bootnet a target machine.  If this will help I will mail you my rough notes offline.

Paul, I'd appreciate seeing your notes re: the net boot option for installing on a CDROM -less machine. I was just rying to get this working the other day and ran into the same error as Pete. Thanks in advance!
