hylafax installation
« on: April 15, 2004, 03:51:18 AM »
I tried installing the hylafax script from Jesper's site at http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/.  The script runs fine and I have no doubts about it.  My doubts are with my modem.  I would like to hear from others that have hylafax installed and running about what types of modems you are using.  I have an old external USR 33.6 faxmodem that doesn't seem to be compatible.  If anyone else has type of modem working, please let me know what your switch settings are set at and I'll test again.

Thanks for the help,

JB

Read my howto at the site you mention. I now use ONLY USR Courier V.Everything 33k or 56k.

Never a problem. Don't waste time. Try one.

Internal ISA USR Sportster v.34+ running Class 1 (Although it is a class 2 modem as well).

USR Class 2 firmware is generally considered to be crap.

Check these links

Thanks Chaloner.  I wanted to test this, but I don't want to drop $200 + just for a test.  :-o  So, I'll get one when I start to fax for real.

I installed from this how-to yesterday on a 6.0 server.  The services run without errors.  I have a USR Courier V.everything.

Hylafax recognizes the modem, but when I try to send a fax to Hylafax, the modem won't answer (AA is on)

Second, I installed the whfc client and I can't seem to login to Hylafax.

If I get some time today, I'll do more troubleshooting.

I've been using exactly the same modem for at least 2 years & it works fine when set to Class 1 (Class 2 is *very* flakey!)

As root type;

# ps -lea | grep fax

This should produce something similar to;

040 S    10  2316     1  0  69   0    -   877 do_sel ?        00:00:00 faxq
040 S    10  2321     1  0  69   0    -   765 do_sel ?        00:00:00 hfaxd
100 S    10  2438     1  0  69   0    -   829 do_sel ?        00:00:11 faxgetty

I have a feeling faxgetty is not running. Send me the dip switch settings on your USR Courier to email@chaloner.ca.

NickR,

I'll try those settings.  I look at changing to class 1 as well.  Thanks for tip.  I just want to test with my modem.  If I need something for production, I'll go with the Courier modem.
