5 months since 5.6UE released ....

I'd like to hear a bit about the road ahead ... obviously not release dates, but something about the enhancements/changes planned for SME Server.  Will it be 5.7, or will the changes be substantial enough to warrant a 6.0 designation?

I know they never talk about release dates but I was hoping for a teensy hint, maybe a bit of a tease, a glimmer of a roadmap ... oh well!

- The latest release (5.6) has the latest kernel flavor (2.4).
- Most patches for core packages have been applied (Update 4)
- Compliance with RH8 packages is achieved

So... basically we are talking about new application features right? for the basic current framework is there..

just a thought.

Yep, reckon I'll just have to go ahead & change my home LAN SME box over from old faithful 5.1.2 to 5.6 ... of course, doing so is like washing the car -- guaranteed to bring rain, so Mitel will no doubt release 5.7 with a ton of spiffy new features next week.

Now let's see, where'd I leave that Ghost boot floppy?

It looks like the new dev version 6 is available at /e-smith/dev/6.0dev/

It is a beta1 version (Mitel 6000 SME Server).

I am going to try for a few weeks....

That figures, I get up the nerve to upgrade and here comes another version ... oh well, at least the upgrade to 5.6 went OK.  Now, if I could only figure out how to get MySQL up to version 4 so's I can run InfoCentral properly (infocentral.org); I want to keep track of our local Kiwanis club with it.

What makes you think that you need MySQL version 4 to run InfoCentral properly?

This quote from the developer makes me think so:

"Oops.. silly me. The machine the demo runs on was still using MySQL 3.23.x which doesn't support the UNION operator. Which, btw, I should make use of this to note that InfoCentral 1.2.0 will require Mysql 4.x -- not just because of this, but because I intend to keep up with the latest tools available, including eventually InnoDB tables which support transactions."

From a thread in the forums ("1.2 Bugs"):

I should note that it runs OK under 3.23 ... but as mentioned in the thread, the UNION operator is used in 1.2.0 for some of the more specialized functions and is NOT available in 3.23.  So I have an InfoCentral test install up & running on SME 5.6 but will avoid the function that needs UNION.
