USB 2.0 on 5.6 and 6beta

Hello People,
Does anyone know if I can just wack a USB 2.0 PCI card into an 5.6 or 6.x box and expect it to work.
I'm using a USB 1.1/2.0 AIT tape drive at the moment and it works OK if rather slowly.
