Upgrading CD Issue
« on: November 06, 2003, 08:53:20 AM »
I downloaded the 5.6 .iso and rebooted my system, but it doesn't seem to be booting from the CD. I went into the BIOS and the order is correct (CD, Floppy, Hard Disk).

My Version of E-smith is 2.78 and I am trying to upgrade form this...

Did you follow the directions on how to burn the .ISO correctly?
Can you read the files on the CD in a windows box?

2.78!??!?!  WOW!  You're a patient man.  Wonder if that box will upgrade correctly?  I think I'd probably reformat & install from scratch.

Try making a boot floppy, your old box (I assume it's old if you are running v2.78) may not support bootable CDs. Instructions on e-smith.org.
The CD drive may not even read burnt CD's.

Answering in order receive..I think.

1. I just downloaded the .iso and burnt to CD.  There is only one file on my CD the iso.  You stated files in your reply, but there is only one FILE.

2. I have a bunch of stuff on my drive if I upgrade from scratch wouldn't I lose all my @!#$?  What's the purpose of the server then?

3. I think it can boot from CD.  How can I test for that?  How do I make a bootable floppy?
Thanks all..

If you have one file on the disc that's because you have not done it correctly. If you do not know how to burn an iso image you should check out the how-to here
