Software Raid and Ghost
« on: August 17, 2003, 10:14:07 PM »
Hi
I have built a few servers using 5.6 with a single hard drive and a CD writer and using ghost 2003 to image directly to CDs and the system works fine.
However, I have just built a system using 2 x 80gb hard drives and software raid, now trying to backup to CDs using Ghost tells me that I will need 81 CDs  and this is on a fresh install !!!!
I have tried various configurations, both drives on one ide cable, drives on separate cables etc. All with the same result.
Is it possible to use Ghost or another such program to image the hard drives or is it not practical when using software raid.
Any info/suggestions welcome.

Ghost has no way to know how well files are compressed and how much real dta will be on the disk and estimated (81 CD) is pure based on total drive size. As you start backup it will only use as much as real data on the drive. It may fit on the single CD (or two).
