2 things:
The 10/100 3com hub that u buy has bridge capability between 10 and 100?,
some cheap 3com hubs are dual speed but they do not route between the
10 hub and the 100 hub connections, so machines that are running at 10
aren't seen by machines in 100 mbit, verify this with the hub manual.
and the other thing:
the patch wire between the server and the hub was wired properly?, remember
to follow the CAT 5 conventions, or the patch will not work at 100 mb, it will
indicate link at both sides but will not transfer ANY data.
I use the following that is known as the 568A or 568B, I use the A which
is looking the contacts with the wire coming from below, from left to right
White/green
Green
White/Orange
Blue
White/Blue
Orange
White/brown
Brown
if you made your patches like these with cat 5 cables it will work for sure.
if they aren't wired properly the impedance will not be correct and won't
transfer data at 100 mb.
