Something Wicked happened
« on: May 12, 2003, 07:06:28 PM »
I have a strange problem that has appeared on a system. It is running SME v5.5 with update6 installed. The motherboard is VIA EPIA 800MHz all in one mini-itx. I have setup 8 other systems with the same configuration and have been running for months without a problem.

The system has 2 network cards an on-board plus one other. The on-board is connected to the internal LAN and the other a ADSL modem. On 2 occations in the last 8 days the on-board LAN seems to have hung. I can still ping any internet sites as well as the local IP address but no other internal IP's.

As a temporary fix I restart the network eg: /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
The network ran fine for 4 days and happened again. below is what I have found in the messages log file.

Any ideas to point me in the right direction. I am thinking that it is possibly a faulty NIC???

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards
Craig

Looks like the autonegotiation between the switch and card is getting confused, try using the setup util that came with the card to lock it to 100FDX.

Lots of info on Google.
