Raid Array threw a disk
« on: March 01, 2004, 04:40:22 AM »
I've been called to a location where this server has been setup by the previous IT tech. who has since left.

I've been here a few times and am fairly familiar with the setup but until the first time had never seen this operating system.

The latest and greatest issue is the Raid1 array has blown a disk and just keeps hanging after trying to recover the disk.

The machine says it's working in degraded mode (off 1 disk i'd assume) and then states it needs to recover the drive as it is, and says.

EXT3-fs INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem
EXT3-fs write access will be enabled during recovery

and sits there, from what i remember last time i had an error that needed recovery under linux, it started kjourneld and then recovered happily.
i've replaced the disk and it doesn't seem to have had any affect.

i'm at a loss at what to do and the customers business is at a complete standstill,

Replys greatly needed, i'm over my head i think

Actually there was another hardware fault at the same time which i still can't pinpoint but, this other problem stopped it from booting properly, once the drive was moved to another machine it booted happily and went on its merry way.

thx for all your posts
