SME Server on a Mac?
« on: January 04, 2003, 12:08:02 AM »
Hey,

Just wondering if it would be possible to install SME server on a Mac G4 tower? I know that some flavors of Linux support the Mac hardware, but I am specifically wondering about SME...

Thanks in advance...

Short answer: if you have to ask, then no.

Longer answer: Yes, some flavors of Linux support the Mac.  IIRC, Yellow Dog is very heavily based on RedHat.  So, in theory, it should be possible to install the SME-specific (and architecture-independent) packages on an appropriate Mac Linux system.  It'd likely be quite a bit of work, though.

Thanks for the response... I figured as much. I was hoping that the PPC compatability of SME was undocumented and it would install and work smoothly, of course I was only dreaming.

Unfortunately my PC server at home died and all I have to work with is a Mac... I think that I am going to have to go with SuSe's PPC Linux version and configure everything myself. =(

No SME for me... =(
