Topic: Slow internet during large file copy

Hiyas,

I have noticed that my dial up internet access slows significantly during large file copies from the server accross the local network. Has anyone noticed this and can the internet service be 'niced' to give internet traffic higher priority?

Probably not a server issue.  Large files across a network will slow down the network.  That will make the connection from your computer to the server much slower.  This is especially true if you are running hubs instead of network switches.  What kind of network are you using?

This is the thing. The server is 100mbs switched the same for the main workstation, with a WAP to a wireless notebook (the WAP is also switched). The network performace seems as expected (large files copy quickly) but when i'm on the internet (with dialup on the server) then the internet just slows to a crawl and nothing seems to get through. The file copy remains as fast as expected.
