.swf Files through Server/Gateway
« on: November 12, 2002, 10:44:00 PM »
I have a 5.5 box with update 2 and DansGuardian that I cannot get .swf files to play through.   I do not have a second box to set up to see if it is Dans Guardian stopping them or if it is E-Smith Server.   Other oddities.....If you access the web site through Mozilla there is no problem.  If you access the site in IE with no proxy server set it will work.   From what I can see this extension is not blocked in D/G.
Any ideas would be great.   I work for a school district and a lot of the primary websites have a lot of Flash.

Are you using the dungog addition to dansguardian that integrates it into the server manager? If so do you have any of the options ticked that limit the type of files that can be downloaded? categories options include "may contain executable code" , "may contain harmful macros and viruses" etc.

the logs will tell you if DG is blocking them

[root@sme5 SOURCES]# tail /var/log/dansguardian/access.log
http://www.dungogtlc.org/images/lay_menu_mission_f2.gif/  GET 836
2002.11.13 21:20:31  192.168.35.35 http://www.dungogtlc.org/images/lay_menu_hours_f2.gif/  GET 836
2002.11.13 23:32:30  192.168.35.35 http://sex.com *DENIED* Banned site: sex.com GET 0

or
[root@sme5 SOURCES]# tail /var/log/httpd/access_log

I looked through the logs a little deaper and found that the extension itself was not being blocked rather it was coming from a site that was a banned site.   I overlooked that part earlier.  I looked through the /var.......   logs and searched for .swf  and found the offending sites.  Thanks for the help.
