Forwarding SMTP to ISP fails
« on: June 06, 2002, 07:55:29 PM »
Hello,

I use a e-smith 5.1 as a private server using dial-up access over ISDN for internet and e-mail.

Multi-pop works fine, however sending mail has a hickup.
I configured in 'other e-mail settings' for the server to use my Internet provider's SMTP server.

When analyzing my own mail it seems that the server is still using its own smtp server to send mail. This has already resulted in:
1. Unnecessary dial-ins in case of bad mailservers (tries several times to send it to mail servers that are down).
2. Unaccepted e-mails. Some mailservers detect that the mail comes from a mailserver on a dynamic ip-address and do not trust these mailservers (potential hacked private person's).

Easiest way out is to directly configure each client to use the ISP's smtp server, however all the internal mail will not be filtered out.

Why is the e-smith still using it's own smtp server and trying to deliver the mail directly???

Hope that someone can help me.

Richard.
