(shameless plug) E-smith box monitor and security audits

Hi E-smith folks.

Sorry for the intrusion, but we know that there are some people on this bulletin board who would be interested.  We just added support for E-smith/Mitel 5.x machines to our managed services system.  It has some ServiceLink-like features and it's more affordable.

The service includes:

- Port monitoring
- DNS services
- MX backup

And a couple of things you won't find in ServiceLink:

- Daily security audits (including Aide)
- Resource monitoring
- Alerts to your Windows system tray

Thanks for listening,
Samantha

Sam,

Resource monitoring?  security audits?  alerts?  Get real.  There are a million tools available via GPL/free for linux.

Shameless?  Yes.  Because it's a shame that you are trying to hawk this "pay-per-month" software that can be downloaded for free.  Plus, what's up with your $85 set up fee?

Forget it.  I won't bite.  Anyone who does 10 minutes of research will come to the same conclusion.

Why would the server need monitoring when its 100% reliable ?

Ouch.

Sorry that you think our service bites Tom... I respect your opinion.  However, I do want to clarify a few things.

We use and develop GPL software.  In fact, we use AIDE to run part of the security audit.  One of the chicken/egg problems with running a security audit is making sure the audit tools and internal databases have not been tampered with.  This, of course, requires either a read-only medium or trusted offsite storage.

The system monitor has caught a number of problems (a disk space issue from a client copying his entire hard disk onto a share drive, upstream DOS attacks, and a few other goodies).  We love contacting our clients and telling them they have a problem *before* they even know about it.

If you have the skills and the patience to build your own Big Brother server, run offsite security audits, operate 3 DNS servers, and setup MX backup... more power to you!

Regards,
Samantha
