Web server with subdomain name?
« on: February 23, 2002, 09:29:43 PM »
I  have a 5.3 server (running in server only mode) setup within my school district's NT domain.  I wish to use the box as a web server as well as file server.  File server works great (2 years).  I have ran into DNS problems though trying to activate the web server.

The network administrator created a subdomain  xxx.asdf.bc.ca  for the box within the domain www.asdf.bc.ca .  However, the assigned subdomain name xxx.asdf.bc.ca cannot be accessed outside the WAN.  He insists that adjusting the SME DNS record to remove the default www would resolve the problem. Apparently, the SME box is trying to use the primary web address of the district for its domain.

Help:  Could someone point me in the right direction on this one?

Have you tried creating a virtual domain called xxx.asdf.bc.ca and pointing it to your Primary website?  Not sure if it will work, and I don't have the hardware to test it, but it is worth a try...
