Domain users can not login
« on: August 24, 2008, 10:00:56 AM »
Hi there,

I have been tasked with an assignment to create server/client connectivity for an assignment. Everyone has gone with windows server 2003 (and good for them) but i decided to use linux for this. However I am running into slight problems. After I have created more users from the web-based control panel, it seems that i cannot login using these newly created accounts.

The only account that can be logged in(to the domain which is the sme server) is the admin account.

Anyone has any thoughts on this and how may i fix this?

cheers,

Hi

if clients are windows XP, I usually open regedit on each client and change the value of RequireSignorSeal to 0

after that, no problem to login..

ah, naturally I'm talking about pc joined to sme's domain..

ts really really bizzare. it "finished searching through out the registry" and found nothing.

btw i am using windows xp sp3

a little googling comes up with this:
http://www.wlug.org.nz/RequireSignOrSeal

however following option two, i found that it was already disabled.

Any further suggestions as to why it wont login :(

The admin account logins in fine, just not any other accounts. So maybe its got something to do with other accounts not found in the smbpasswd database or something? just a guess?

In http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter9#Users it states:

Quote
User accounts are locked out and cannot be used until you set the initial password for each account . As a reminder of this, user accounts appear in red until the password is changed.

Can we assume that you have set the initial password?
