Squidguard problems
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:02:43 PM »
Well as you can read i have a few problems.

The first would be that i cant find the right command to change the blacklist to http://squidguard.shalla.de/Downloads/shallalist.tar.gz and the "help line" that appears when i want to change it from the server manager doesn't help me at all.

The second question would be how to add stuff to blacklists (via config setprop command or by editing squidguard.conf file).

And the third question would be how to disable outgoing trafic so i would force users to use squid proxy (or should i just limit their xp accounts so they can't change this setting).

Thanks for the reply

Moving this topic to the SME 7.x contribs forum, it is more appropriate there. Thanks!

As long as you have the HTTP Proxy all users will be using proxy without having to force xp accounts.

I didn't even know about that. :D I always configured all other computers to run trough proxy. But i did find it odd when i got a squid (page not found) error on some computers that weren't configured to use proxy.

Edit: I found something in /etc/e-smith/db/configuration/defaults/squidguard but i don't know if it's ok to edit it manually.

http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/byte/7.0/squidGuard/

I say it's great because.....oh look I did it    8) (not as great as JB one as it has a nice gui  :D

Noooo don't you've been around long enough to no not to do that  :P IIRC try...db squidguard show <tab> to see what options are there as that's where i think you would add new black lists.[/quote]

Well (for my defence) i never browsed trough this part of the server (db folder) :)

I'll use this contrib just because i'm too lazy to remove it. If i don't change the update part i'll remove this one and go with yours.

And i never did use db commands (well not a lot of them) so i'm not too comfortable to use them.

Would db squidguard setprop Blacklist linktoblacklist work?

Edit: To answer my own question... No.

Edit No. 2: I am sick and tired of db commands. There are only two options i'm dumb aor just too tired to go trough this so i'll apreciate any help you can give me and i'll try it tomorrow.

So you are using the contrib I modified, with byte's initial work.  How's that for some credit.   :D

What on the Blacklist controls help page, do you not understand.  The blacklist setting is now a db value.  Log on to the console and do - config show squidguard.  One of the db values is Blacklist.  To change - config setprop squidguard Blacklist http://squidguard.shalla.de/Downloads/shallalist.tar.gz.
Everything that I have changed is documented in the changelog.  rpm -q smeserver-squidguard --changelog | more

If you have the latest version of the smeserver-squidguard rpm (-12), then when you download from shalla, the supdate script will now convert the lists to *.db files which load a heck of a lot faster when stopping and starting squidguard.

As far as adding entries, use the content filtering panel in server-manager.  If you have 7.1.2 or greater installed then you have to put up with the double login until I find some good time to update it.  You have trusted and untrusted (domains, urls, expressions).  Add your entries, then restart squid.  /etc/rc7.d/S90squid stop ; /etc/rc7.d/S90squid start.  You will know when things are ready when you see this in the /var/log/squidguard/squidguard.log file:
2007-03-18 17:14:54 [3687] squidGuard 1.2.0 started (1174256093.054)
2007-03-18 17:14:54 [3687] squidGuard ready for requests (1174256094.968)

HTH some,

John

Well i knew i was tired. I did enter the config setprop command but i did it like config squidguard setprop
Thanks for the help.

And one more question.... Does the script update itself or do i have to do it manually?

The script runs by itself, it's in /etc/cron.daily which runs at 4:02 am.
To verify it has run, you can check /var/log/messages and search for shalla.
