IDE tape drive & module loading
« on: November 15, 2006, 07:57:12 PM »
I have an IDE tape drive on a new SME 7 box

I have a read around to solve how to load the requisite modules. I can now get the tape to run OK but need to adjust some config files and would appreciate some assistance

I have added the following to my grub.conf :

hdb=ide-scsi

I rmmod the st module which gets loaded at startup but  apparently interferes with the sg module

I then modprobe the sg module

I understand that I have to edit the modules.conf file so st is not loaded and sg is but am not sure the best way to do it.

Can anyone give me some advice ?

If it doesn't work, then please report your problem and your investigation in as much detail as you can via the bug tracker. Thanks.

Charlie,

I had previously been using Tapeware 7D as supplied with the drive rather than the in built software and had decided to continue to use it when I reinstalled.

Does this make it a 'bug' ?

Quite happy to bug track if required.

It is an issue with Tapeware 7D and the core (I ran into it myself)
Tapeware 8 is "supposed" to work, but I never tested.

Thanks for the comments.

As per my earlier, it seems to work - it's currently running a backup. I'll check on the progress in the a.m.

As soon as I removed st and modprobed sg, Tapeware picked up the device quite happily.

I'll post what I can on the bug tracker and see if anyone has any other thoughts.

Backup ran perfectly.

I have posted this as an addition to Bug 788
