Strong Passwords

Sorry to post this topic agan but a search for 'password' does not seem to show what I want.

I know that SME7.0 uses a strong pasword protection, I have seen the postings on setting password strength as in: /sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop passwordstrength Ibays week but this seems to have no effect.

I use passwords with letters and numbers but do not mix cases. All the passwords on my network are in the form aaaaaannana or similar.

The admin manager will not let me save the password as the one I use in the rest of my system. The consequence of this is that I cannot directly access the iBays without entering the SME password.

I could change the passwords on the rest of my machines (9) to get round this but I would really like to alter the SME server.

I would keep the main administrator paswords strong and only relax the iBays.

Martin,

The passwordstrength options are;
strong
normal
none

there is no option week (assume you mean weak  :-) )

Read this FAQ  http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SME%20Server%207%20password%20check%20and%20settings

Thanks for the help Jon.

I used the commands shown in the article to determine that I have managed to introduce a new catagory of user as well as users. They are both now set to none and all the windows machines can now acces the ibays.

Strangly my Suse 10.0 Clients still need to provide a password to access the ibsys!.

Thanks.
