Sensors Bug After Update
« on: September 06, 2013, 07:29:24 PM »
Would like to raise a bug report about this but having difficulty figuring out which of the updated packages makes the temperature portion of sensors (lm_sensors) not report properly on sme8 servers. Updates done on Aug 18 - 30, 2013 - issue same on multiple servers. Also the hddtemp sensors not displaying output correctly.

Current output -
[root@server ~]# sensors
CPU Temp:  +41.3°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =   -71°C)
SYS Temp:  +30.8°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =   -71°C)
SBr Temp:   +24.9°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =  +146°C)

[root@server ~]# hddtemp /dev/hda /dev/hdc
/dev/hda: WDC WD800JB-00JJA0: 37°C
/dev/hdc: WDC WD800JB-00JJA0: 40°C

Output before update -

[root@server ~]# sensors
CPU Temp:  +41.3°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =   -71°C)
SYS Temp:  +30.8°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =   -71°C)
SBr Temp:   +24.9°C  (high =  +146°C, hyst =  +146°C)

[root@server ~]# hddtemp /dev/hda /dev/hdc
/dev/hda: WDC WD800JB-00JJA0: 37°C
/dev/hdc: WDC WD800JB-00JJA0: 40°C

Since the output of lm_sensors is how both phpsysinfo and sme8admin derive their info each of these programs will not display the temps at all for board temps or hdd temps....

Thanks

Would like to raise a bug report about this ...

You should do so in the bug tracker.

Neither of those packages is installed on base install, so perhaps Contribs forum is a better place to discuss such issues.

Charlie,

Mentioning the contribs - phpsysinfo and sme8admin - was simply an afterthought. It really does not apply to the programming in the base of lm_sensors. Does the problem effect the producers the contribs?

Also how and where should I raise the bug? Under contribs or base? Label it lm_sensors broken??

Thanx

Paul

Doesn't really matter too much, since devs can reclassify it if necessary. I'd say base, since lm_sensors is included in base, even if it is not actually used.

Sure - or you could be more specific about how it is broken, e.g. "bad readings from lm_sensors?".

All the above said, maybe you are more likely to find a fix by reporting to bugzilla.redhat.com.

Chris,

Thank you ...... yes it appears the bug reported is pretty much the same .....

So I guess asking unilennium how best to help resolve is the better course of action.....LOL

pmstewart,

how did you obtain theses strange printing ?

are you using putty ?

try to change your translation setting from ISO to UTF8, should be better, as command line has moved to UTF8 for everybody.

Jean,

I went into Putty (v0.62) on my windows box and went to "Window", "Translation", under "Remote Character Set" and chose UTF-8 and saved as default setting.

Made NO difference on any of the 4 servers - they all display the same when sensors or hddtemp commands are run.....

This fix appears to work & no need to change settings in Putty, you should revert Putty to original settings.

Thanks Janet for the workaround.....

I went ahead and made the change to the .bash_profile as you suggested. It works when I putty into the box but does this mean the
workaround will have to be applied to every box I want to run lm_sensors on??

It's a manual fix, whether the bug will lead to an automated upgrade fix, I do not know.
AFAICT you need to apply it to every bash profile for every active user on every sme 8 server.

Please add your issue & result to the same or new bug reports, it might prompt further developer activity.
